HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

UPDATE - 10.22.08 - A whole buncha new stuff under PROJECTS, looky!

10.22.08 - NIGHTSHADE performed in the Laika group show this past week. We did our pop up piece Order of Wolf for the kids preceded by a Santeria inspired procession and cleansing ritual. I think it freaked some people out, which means we are totes TCOB. Here is a shot of the installation in the gallery, I designed and cut the shadow.

ALSO! We created and performed a piece on the fly this week at East End and Berbati's  with our pals from BKYLN, Golden Triangle. Vice Magazine has been following them around and we managed to get some video on the site. The video quality is not the best  or meant for a shadow show  so bear with it. Golden Triangle does a killer set.

8-20-08 - Yay! Our show was a great success! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and esp. the people who helped us get through it. Honestly it couldn't have come together without you!
Danny, Stef, Tony, Margaret, Hazel and Josh! Also Thanks to Liberty  Hall for having us. What a great venue! (If I'm forgetting someone forgive me!)
We had a great write up in the Oregonian. Check out the link below. I posted some of the pictures by Tim La Barge.

Still from NIGHTSHADE

Still from NIGHTSHADE

Update - 6/29/08     We have dates for our re-vamped NIGHTSHADE performance which was first featured at the Voice 4 Vision festival in NYC last summer. We've been working like crazy tightening the style and adding new superfly effects. Check us out at LIBERTY HALL  in Portland July 26th and 27th.  More details to come...

4/10/08 - Drawing for a collaborative sketchbook that's being passed around at work. Enough with the devil girls and ghosts already.

Update 4/04/08 - Cut out shadows under projects.    Burp.

Update 3/31/08 - More shadows under Projects.

Update 3/30/08 - Spent today redrawing and improving shadow images. An example under Projects.

Update 3/26/08 - Yo. I got to a 'puter. I am settling in to my new home in Portland OR and am finally feeling like I can start doing some drawing. Mostly the crew and I have been re-blocking and rehearsing NIGHTSHADE in our living room. Every. Single. Night. After work. Needless to say I still know nothing of the city.  We are hoping to have a much improved and completed show sometime in July and then start TIGIE when the weather starts to get crappy. I am beginning to redraw the puppets (around 200+) and flesh out some of the scenes. While that's happening I am trying to keep myself doing some non show related work. I want to do more stenciling and spray painting so hopefully I will put some examples up. For now I just have 2 dinky drawings under sketchbook projects that I crammed in the 2 minutes between rehearsal and passing out face down on my bed.

Update 1/25/08 - I am moving to Portland OR next week to pursue my dream job working on a stop motion animation feature film. Also Carrionettes (name soon to be changed) has received a seed grant from the Jim Henson foundation to get started on our TIGIE piece. We are super psyched! Once I am settled I will continue to use this site as a motivational tool and put up tons of crap.

UPDATE 1/15/07 - Ok I lied. I am working on a project with my friends Lauren and Rebekka. Lauren is a Chocolatier and is having us design (Becks designing, me illustrating) some packaging for her her chocolates. Check out her site. http://www.richchocolates.com/  I put some sketches under PROJECTS.

Update 1/7/08 - Going to be taking a bit of a hiatus for a few weeks so there won't be many updates if any. After the break there will be much to tell and lots of stuff I will be working on. In the meantime (for the the 2 people who read this, Thanks Dad!) watch this video about THYLACINES as this is what I will be thinking about for the next year of my life.

Update 12/19/07 - Added more in ABOUT section including a review of NIGHTSHADE.

ALSO we are performing HAUNTED PROJECTILE for the last time in NYC this thursday DEC 20th at at 9pm at chashama/Explosivo, 169 Avenue C.  Cheeeeck it out

Update 9/25/07 - Beginning to get the Voice for Vision show together.  Put some concept sketches into 'projects'. Also we maaaay be creating /performing/opening, not sure yet, for a certain band that starts with a "J"  in November that we have worked with before. No confirmation yet details soon...

Update 9/20/07 - Under Projects visual guide for TIGIE

Update 9/14/07 - So there's been alot going on and I've been a bit MIA lately. I kind of hate how this has turned into a bloggy thing.  It feels weird to write about what you are doing to a computer screen. At least it makes me motivated. ANYWAY the point - Sarah and I have been working hard getting together our 2nd round of the Jim Henson Foundation seed grant application in on time. The marionette/theater /video project is called "Tigie" which tells the taleof a  little boy who is raised in the wild by a pack of Thylacines in 1952 Tasmania. He is eventually caught and re-raised into civilized society.  While we've been working on this as our company (also including super awesome artists/musicians Jason Thibodeaux, Alain Z and Blake Madden) "Carrionettes" we've also been organizing a show "Night Shade" for the Voice for Vision festival in December. Our piece consists of 3 "chapters" written by Sarah, Jason Thibodeaux and I.  This will show the mythology behind "Haunted Projectile"  soooo there you have it.  As we move further along I will try to post more images without actually giving too much away.     Salud

Update 9/11/07 - New marionette concepts under projects. These will be carved into approx. 6 inch figures. I have many more drawings but down one scanner. Booo.

Update  - 8/28/07 - Really good things are happening! Sarah and I have been invited to create a puppet piece and perform at the Theater for the New City's 4th Annual VOICE 4 VISION PUPPET FESTIVAL.  More details soon. Here's the site   http://www.theaterforthenewcity.net/

Update - 8/14/07 - My computer died. It got one of those frowny face icons and just goes black so if anyone knows anything about computers please god help me. I haven't been able to scan but have been creating a "style guide" and story boards for the TIGIE project. As soon as i can i'll put some images up. Just so this isn't a total loss here is a picture from the totally excellent Daft Punk concert I went to last week.  Also last week I got doored by a cab while riding up 1st ave and was rescued by hotcops.

Update- 7/30/07 - Does anyone ever actually look at this website? If you do, sign the guest book!  It will stave off the oppressive smog of insecurity for that much longer! yay! Also there's asbestos outside my office. sweet!

Update 7/13/07 - HAUNTED PROJECTILE at the National Puppet Festival in St. Paul MN July 18th-22nd!

Sarah Frechette of Puppet Kabob www.puppetkabob.com is taking our show on the road to lead a performance workshop. If you are in the area it's something you should definately check out. You will probably be killed from the sheer terror.

Here is the site info http://www.puppetrampage2007.org/pages/home.html  and our bio.  Also we got some nice shots of the actual performace. Looky!

Artists Puppetkabob Sarah Frechette and Liz Adele Allen have fused together to create “Haunted Projectile”, a show of supernatural things honoring the innocent, sinister, intimate and haunted. H.P. mixes illustration, sound and light into a form of cinematic shadow theater. Through the use of different mediums to communicate between dimensions, Liz and Sarah question death and living.

Puppets and props designed by Sarah Frechette, Alain Z and Liz (that's me)
